In 2008 the opening of a new black-box performance and community space was celebrated in downtown Berkeley. The new "Nell & Jules Dashow Wing" was constructed with funding from Deborah Dashow Ruth's inheritance from her parents. Over 50 Bay Area theatre lovers, performers, writers, and directors were in attendance.

Veteran Bay Area actor Julian Lopez-Morrillas reads a passage from William Shakespeare's "Henry IV, Part II" in honor of the new wing.
Aurora Theatre was founded in 1992 by Barbara Oliver. Originally, its shows were produced at the Berkeley City Club. It moved into downtown Berkeley, next door to the Berkeley Repertory Theatre on Addison Street. The Freight & Salvage folk music club joined the two theatres to make the street over into a popular night spot for theatre and music, drawing over 24,000 people each year.
